Clean display is great. I'd like to have had a 'notes' field for adding any other info, like what the shop specialises in.

Having to click 7 times then select Monday through Sunday is a bit annoying after the third time. Wonding if there was a way that could be prepopulated?

Yeah the time bit could use a bit of work. I imagine we already know this as well, but having the pop up with info when using the Explorer will also be great.

Ya I would like the genre specific info as well and it is annoying to add the shop hours. Is there a way set it up where you could set monday-friday preselect or Monday-Thursday in some cases?

Is this going to eventually tie into Discogs (besides the Discogs specific URL's) or remain completely separate?

Awesome! I did not notice twitter in the URL drop down. Is there anyway to add a checking in function to this? To alert people and say "Hey I'm at 360 for example"? Just a thought. May be getting ahead of myself but it might be a cool feature.

Yeah, integration with Discogs would be awesome eventually. Especially if we can add to a user's marketplace page/profile page.

Sorry, one more suggestion for now (would use an edit button on last post if it were available). Adding the ability to upload a photo of the store would be a great addition as well.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hours: I could add some type of "initialize" button that would add all seven days of the week.

Popup/hover info on the explorer: yes, that will come.

For now I think the only way this will link to Discogs is on the individual shops links to their Discogs storefronts. There will probably be a link somewhere on Discogs to vinylhub.

Image upload will come. You can actually upload now, it's just not displayed on the store page yet. I'll turn that on soon.

Finally had some time to try out the site. And I can see this can get addictive :o)

I agree with everyone on the shop hours. If the days of the week indeed could be prepopulated that would be handy. Or if the days would be showing as a table, where you add applicable hours and eventually only days to which you added information will show, that might help.

I think a field for notes, to add info about anything special about the store (selling other vintage items, book & recordstore combined) for example, would be worthwhile

And I was also thinking it would be useful to add a possibility (check box?) for New and/or Second Hand

One more thing I was wondering about is a drop down menu for country. That way you can ensure all countries are entered and spelled in the same way. I used all caps now for country, but wasn't sure that's the way to go

In regards to links to Discogs, wouldn't it make sense to include the rating/feedback a store has on Discogs on their VinylHub-page as well?

Also uploading images doesn't seem to work for me. It seems I can't click the "upload"-button. At least there's no visible feedback on whether or not me clicking on it does anything.

Good idea for the future!

You should click "Choose File" and select a file. Then click upload. In Chrome browser I see upload progress in the status bar below. But we do need a visual indicator on the screen. What browser are you using?

I'm using IE11 - that might be why. I'll try uploading using Chrome and report back.

Yup, Chrome works perfectly fine. It seems the upload button isn't activated once you chosen your file in IE.

i think the entry page should be the explorer and not the latest additions, people will be looking for stores by location, saves them a click.

the map on the right side of the store page should take you to google maps, for route-planning etc.

maybe an additional notes field for the opening hours section is useful. the store i added has longer hours on the first saturday of the month, that is in the description now but would make more sense near the opening hours. also info like closed for holidays or similar could go there.

also a little extra spacing or borders between the info fields on the store page will make it clearer i think.

Yeah the hours would more more seamlessly if there were options to set Weekly hours as opposed to a drop down for each day. I.E. most shops here in the states keep the same hours Monday-Saturday / Tuesday-Sunday 11 to 7 or Noon until 8.

More than being able to locate the shops themselves, it would be really useful to be able to integrate to Map between the stores or at least pull up a printable list of specific areas or something for travelling, though I guess you can do that in google maps...but. So, Say you're in Rome or Tokyo with no wifi you can have a list in hand. Also, outside your home country shops can be confusing even with an address, so a menu item of additional direction instructions ( "Located in the basement", "In the back of the shopping Center", "On the third floor", "Underground in the Train Station", "permanent stall in center of the Flea market") would be helpful.

no luck with photos from Android device.
keeps telling me wrong image type.

My first-impression suggestion, having added the store closest to my home, (http://www.vinylhub.com/shop/240-Seasick-Records ) is to give the URL dropdown an "other" option or a "fill in the descriptor yourself" option. That store, and others in my neck of the woods, use Instagram a lot. In other regions/countries, different web platforms may be favored - I think having that option fully customizable makes more sense than adding ever more choices to the dropdown.

Really nice!
Everything worked when adding Repeat Records in Malmö.
A little bigger text box sizes would make text editing easier (on iPad).

Got the following error when adding Collectables in Hong Kong via iPad.

×Server Error
"list index out of range"
This error has been logged and we will look into it.

I'll leave it in your capable hands.

Great to have this Kevin, no other site does it properly yet, hope we can get this one right, accurate with data fields, displays, tools and functions and users to keep up to date - I'm very happy to do what I come across.

I am also getting an error clicking Collectables in Hong Kong

It would be nice to be able to indicate days the store is closed in stead of just not entering anything for those days.

What about a remarks field for the opening hours. Like a remark that sometimes the shop can be closed the entire day or earlier because of shows the shop will be selling at... now you have to enter that in the shop description.

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone! These are great ideas and help with making improvements here.

This page is loading now. There is a problem with getting address information about this one from the google maps api, I'm looking into it more. But you can load the page with no error now.

Seem to have managed to add a shop without a name and now can't delete it. Do a search for "Upminster".

Wow! I'll get it fixed.

Cool. I see you have fixed it Teo, but just fyi, that one and a few more I've added in Manchester and Essex don't seem to have made their way onto the Explorer map.

Nice ! Works well.
I inadvertently added some blank hours, and web addresses which bought up some odd error messages 'uTuesday' not found. Sussed out the problem easily enough, but some more descriptive error messages may be helpful ?
just click on 'add url' button, but leave blank to see what I mean

Excellent stuff. Upon adding/updating a few of the Tokyo shops, here are my thoughts:

  • there might be a URL option for adding web sites that provide English information (Japanese web sites often have an English blog in lieu of a full site, for example)
  • address and phone number formatting might be a bit loose at the moment (maybe add fields?)
-adding a Google map link could be great, for those of us who trek around on foot
-I've been using basic HTML code (such as
, etc.) in order to keep the description field more legible, but I wonder if there should be a looser or stricter format, or just do away with that altogether and allow WYSIWYG with hitting the enter key...
  • opening hours: seconded for the days closed; also I was wondering if we are keeping to a 12 or 24 hour format

Anyway, these are just ideas, and I'll cruise the other thoughts and comments as well. I'll try to get a few photos up for the Tokyo shops also. Great to be a part of this.

Oops, I should have also added: in the future, once the shop list gets to be huge, it would be great to be able to sort them by location (country, city, etc.), by genre, and perhaps by format (vinyl, CD) in case that's of use to anyone. Right now the alphabetical sort seems decent, but my scrolling finger is getting muscular.

so, i also done my first entry and i think all is good. but what about the emal of the shop? ahve a look:

really nice project btw..

blessings :)

Not sure if this has already been suggested but a link with discogs so you can add which shops you bought stuff from in your collection

How about adding a "Type"-system of sorts, in order to distinguish dedicated record stores from thrift stores and/or larger chains that might be carrying records alongside consumer electronics, etc.? Then people can sort between stores that only (more or less) deal in records and related equipment from stores that sell records alongside a wide range of other products. Maybe there could even be a "type" or "category" for places that occasionally hosts record fairs/conventions.

Then different types could be displayed using different colored pins on the map.

FLauridsen - that sounds interesting. What kinds of 'type' do you see? Perhaps a list is worthwhile doing and discussing?

Nice project, few requests:

A number indicating how many stores added in select city/country.
It would be nice if US cities could be filtered with states as well.

Seems the address field is a bit hit and miss when it comes to the using the search function.

i.e. If I do a search for "Wickford", the store I submitted comes up (entry 411). But if I do a search for "Battlesbridge" (the village next door), nothing comes up despite there beng two entries (1787 and 1788).

Perhaps specific address fields for Street, Town, County/State etc.?

nik - I was thinking "types" like Record or Music Store (for stores specifically selling cds and lps and maybe movies, seeing how that's pretty common), Thrift Stores/Second Hand stores, Record Fairs, Antique Store, General Electronics store (as some seem to be carrying vinyl as well), Clothing Stores (that may be going a bit far, but Urban Outfitters and Hot Topic do usually have a smaller record/music section). Stuff like that. Some of those can probably go together, but it was just what I could come up with at the top of my head.

Maybe a checkbox to check for stores that have closed, which is something I'm missing seeing how there's often not a whole lot of info online on closed stores.. at least not the ones near me.

+1 for some form of 'type' tags!

Thrift and Antique shops are very common ones that are usually polar opposites in terms of price and quality. We also have a few 'fashion boutiques' that also carry vinyl records.

Record fairs and swap meets might be a little tougher to pin down since they typically occur at irregular intervals. Still I know of several that deserve mention as they are regular events that have been going on for years.

Ok, after the first addition and some thinking...
- search does not work. "helsinki" gives nothing, yet there are many shops there already. The city should be separate from the street address I guess.
- a list of submissions per user is necessary (like in discogs - on user profile)
- do we stick to the facts in shop profiles, or add opinions? IMHO opinions / reviews are beneficial, but they are very subjective, I'd rather have those separated from basic facts; maybe notes, reviews, or discussion field
- shop history should have a commenting feature, now it's necessary to click the shop to editing mode and do a bland edit to add a comment in history
- genre info would be good. For many shops it's tough; how to put in info of a shop covering a wide selection, with some genres more present than other. wondering how to manage that... free text is not searchable and creates clutter, maybe basic genres (jazz, classical, rock, metal, punk, world, dance) as drop-down choices? Plus a free text field? How to mark the "main" genres?
- new / used & vinyl / cd / others selections should be there.
- besides weekly opening times, there should be a free text field for opening times info for record fairs etc.

Btw the explorer is at the current state useless. For Helsinki, it gives just one hit: http://www.vinylhub.com/shop/1775-Parallel-Schallplatten - which is actually in Cologne.
Warning for dupes is really necessary, there are already three Swamp Musics in Tampere. They should be merged - which brings us to the point that the DB needs shop ID's.

Another thought - I've spend a lot of time adding the same opening hours on weekdays, as most stores (at least in Denmark) have the saming opening/closing hours each weekday (maybe with the exception of fridays).

Would it be possible to add a function where you can add hours for several weekdays at the same time?

Thanks, that sounds interesting. I don't think we are cataloging record fairs right now, maybe in the future? I'd have to check with Kevin. I think some more thought / discussion on the possible 'type' field would be good, does anyone else have any thoughts?

search does not work

I think the search is quite basic at this time. I am sure it will be updated at some point. Mmm search, always an issue!

do we stick to the facts in shop profiles, or add opinions? IMHO opinions / reviews are beneficial, but they are very subjective, I'd rather have those separated from basic facts; maybe notes, reviews, or discussion field

I'd stick to facts at this time, 'reviews' or the like would be a different thing.

teo should be able to address the other ideas / point here when he is able, thanks!

About search; it shouldn't really so hard to get at least the very basic feature of searching for shops in a particular city to work. Now it does not. It should be the absolute key priority, all other search features are mire or less irrelevant IMHO compared to this one - if the DB does not show me Barcelona shops while I'm in Barcelona, what's the use of the whole thing? Put the city in a separate field, wouldn't that do it?

Trying to upload images, but I get "You must select a valid image" all the time. E.g. 600x400px and 197kB in JPG format.

Calle_jr, what browser are you using?

got an issue here with a shop containing a ' in the name...
http://www.vinylhub.com/shop/1919-Rockin'-Box

teo, I use MS Internet Explorer 11 on Win 7 Home Premium.

Thanks, Lennert_. I've got that bug marked and will fix it soon.

Calle_jr, that makes sense, I've heard others report that MSIE won't work. I don't have access to IE right now so I can't work on it yet. But I'll find a way.

Elukkae: can you give me an example of your search that isn't working? thx

Lennert_ that issue is fixed. Also, that shop has a new url: http://www.vinylhub.com/shop/1919-Rockin-Box

teo, that's great!
